FreedomPop To Be Acquired by a Major Carrier?

UPDATE:08/30/2014
Bloomberg has reported that two companies are in talks to purchase FreedomPop in a deal potentially valued at over $100 million!  That would be a huge hall for a company that has less than 1 million subscribers.  Potential purchasers include one unnamed domestic, and one international suitor.

Sprint MVNO FreedomPop may soon find itself bought out according to a recent article by FierceWireless. The rumor was also confirmed by FreedomPop CEO Stephen Stokols although little details were provided. Formal talks have been underway with the company to possibly sell to an unidentified "major carrier." FreedomPop as you may know, is a wireless carrier that offers 500 minutes of data, 500 texts, and 200 talk per month at absolutely no charge.  This sort of service seems like something that's right up Google's alley.  Would they consider buying the MVNO? Buying them out would also mean partnering with Sprint, and it would be hard to imagine that as a real possibility.  In all likelihood, with all the moves Sprint has made recently including taking over the services of Zact Mobile, I'd have to imagine they'd be the prime candidate to buy FreedomPop.
In the meantime, FreedomPop is reporting they plan to have 1 million subscribers by the end of 2015, and in time for the holidays this year they plan to make a push into retail nationwide with stores such as Staples, as well as other big and small retailers.
